Class Projects
INGL-4326 is the Children's Literature course. This is a literature course for teachers. It comprises a selection of English folk works, contemporary American literature, and international classics in translation within children’s and young adult literature. It is proposed to carry out a study of criticism and literary values with a focus on the teaching of these.
Traditional Literature Presentation & Mini Lesson
This presentation covers chapter six of the classbook "Essentials of Children's Literature". In this presentation you will find the definition of traditional literature, the different types and examples of the subgenres in traditional literature which spans from folktales and fables to myths, epics and legends. Aside from the presentation there is also a mission lesson centered around Greek myths.
The Lorax: Book talk
For this project, we had to select a book of our choosing from the children's literature section in the library. After reading our selected book and following the rubric, we had to create a presentation in which we talked about the author, the book's awards, provided a summary, what audience the book caters to and reasons as to why the book should be read and taught in the classroom.
Charlotte's Web: Mini-Lesson
The final class activity was reading Charlotte's Web in its entirety. Each of us in the class was assigned a chapter of the book for which we had to create a mini-lesson based on a specific skill and grade of our choosing. I was assigned chapter five and decided to choose the skills of close reading and character analysis. This activity caters to the fifth grade and consists of using a graphic organizer to analyze Charlotte and Wilbur. In the sample of the worksheet, you will find a character analysis of Wilbur.
Reflection
In this document, you will find my reflection regarding the final project in which I talk about the lesson and asses the strengths of it and provide the reasoning and thought process for the creation and selection of this specific type of assignment.
